S.O.S - Shiny Object Syndrome
So, you finally are exercising again.
CONGRATS (Seriously! :))
What have you decided to do that is getting you consistently exercising again?
Is it….
Walking a certain amount of miles?
Biking for a certain amount of time?
Size of the weights you are deciding to move?
Amount of weight you are losing?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these, you are not alone. This is what most people do. We are taught to focus on EXTERNAL metrics.
What generally happens is we get consistent with this routine we have decided to focus on and then a blip in the road occurs.
We take a few days off. We get back into it.
A few weeks later, the SAME thing happens. We take a week off.
A couple months later, our original issue feels WORSE. We take a couple weeks off.
Sound familiar?
Generally speaking, we lose some of our progress each time we have to stop and restart. What’s even worse is as the cycle continues to lengthen the time in which you cannot do the activities you have chosen to do, it becomes almost impossible to return to exercise without having psychologically damaging effects. I’m talking slowing down, shortening your strides, even full on avoiding certain things.
You may be wondering “WHY” this happens?
Simple. Focusing on things outside the body can cause you to become MORE injured and less likely to recover from your workouts. Which means you’re more likely going to have to take time off from your workouts and become less likely to return to the activity.
So you may be asking...What the heck is the alternative?
Glad you asked!
Instead of focusing on the external metrics, let’s start to focus on the health and function of our muscles. AND let’s use exercise to do that.
Simply put. When an exercise practice is geared specifically to your wants, needs, and desires of your internal systems (physically & mentally) you will see VERY different results from what you have seen.
I’m talking feeling stronger throughout your ENTIRE body. No hesitation doing things. Getting your vitals checked and the numbers steadily improving. Your mental health regulating because this is the first time you aren’t anticipating something happening while exercising that you cannot handle.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be one of the individuals who has those types of results?!
It’s 100% possible. I have had many people just like you think they have NO other options. Meet with me and months later can’t believe what has happened in such a short period of time.
The option is now. You read this post and cannot turn back from what you have read.
The question is: Will you take the leap?
