How Orthopedics is Rising and the Fitness Industry is Failing.
We live in a world now where you can obtain “fitness” (classes, programs, etc.) at your fingertips.
Any tip. Any time. Anywhere.
With the ease of being able to gain access to workouts you would think we would be a better functioning society. Right?
WRONG.
According to more recent data from The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Research findings show:
By 2030, primary THR is projected to grow 171 percent and primary TKR is projected to grow by up to 189 percent, for a projected 635,000 and 1.28 million procedures, respectively.
Similar gains are expected for revision THR and TKR, growing by 142 percent (72,000 procedures) and 190 percent (120,000 procedures), respectively.
By 2060, primary THR is expected to reach 1.23 million (330 percent increase), primary TKR is expected to reach 2.60 million (382 percent increase), revision THR is expected to reach 110,000 (219 percent increase), and revision TKR is expected to reach 253,000 (400 percent increase).
TJR = Total Joint Replacement
THR = Total Hip Replacement
TKR = Total Knee Replacemnt

Now that you have the data...
How many of you workout with someone who has been injured? Has gone to physical therapy? Has had a surgery?
Majority of us know multiple people who you could categorize under one or more of the questions asked. The thing that no one ever questions is where and how did my issues start?
The story goes something like this…They start to recognize that they get a little twinge or ping of pain. No problem. Just walk it/shake it off. Until years (maybe less) later you can’t ignore it. Ice/heat doesn’t work. A brace doesn’t help. You call for help.
Want to know why this seems to be the same story you hear over and over again?
The information that is given to the instructors, trainers, fitness enthusiasts does not take into consideration the long term ramifications of improperly administered motions.
WHHHHHHAAAAATTTTTTT……?????????
People are being taught to “just move” (like they were taught) without learning what THEIR individual body can currently do.
Meaning...You push through motions that don’t feel “right” because you are trying to mimic what someone is showing you. Even though it may not be appropriate for them either.
To dive a little deeper, there is a blatant disregard for the source of the motion. Distance a particular joint is capable of reaching (concentrically & eccentrically). Individual joint motion capabilities of a multi-joint exercise. Distance and direction of the resistance from the exercise/s being administered. (To name a few)
Without the aforementioned being considered this leads to more strain on the muscular system, which eventually leads to more strain on the supporting structures of it. I.e. tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Which leads you to the orthopedic surgeons office. Becoming another person subjected to being a part of the grim statistics.
So, you may be wondering HOW you get in contact with someone who can get you on the right path. Away from auto-pilot, dance choreography exercise that saves you from the inevitable.
